Beginner Basics: Pottery
November 12, 2023 @ 6:30 pm - 9:00 pm
$109.00Come play with clay at our Beginner’s Pottery Workshop – fun times guaranteed.
You will be creating two unique clay pieces using beginner friendly hand – building techniques that even you can master! You can create a mug and bowl, trinket tray, paint brush holder or even a small vase! No prior experience needed as our in-house ceramic artist will guide you from start to finish.
Our studio in Myaree is BYO drinks, so please don’t forget to bring a beverage to create with. We encourage you to pair your drink with one of our delicious grazing boxes you can select as an ‘add-on’ when booking to help you get in the creative zone.
When to come? – Arrive 6:15pm for a 6:30pm start, sharp!
What to bring? – Yourself! All materials are provided!
What to wear? – We provide you with an apron but recommend wearing something you wouldn’t mind getting dirty… just in case! It is really difficult to remove from clothing.
Important Details:
Your piece will be glazed and fired after the workshop is finished. The cost of this is included in the ticket price.
There is a wait time of 4- 6 weeks before you can collect your finished piece. This is the time it takes to dry, glaze and fire your amazing creations. A huge amount of care is exercised when finishing off your handmade items.
Please note that clay is unpredictable and on rare occasions, items break in the kiln. This is all a natural part of the fun of perfecting your craft. Listening and following instructions from our ceramic artist will ensure very minimal risk.
*Choose your glaze out of 6 choices (White, Oat, Aubergine, Denim Blue (light), Ink Blue (dark), Watermelon)

The Venue
Booking
MY CLASS IS SOLD OUT. CAN YOU SQUEEZE ME IN?
Unfortunately, due to venue capacity restrictions, we are unable to add any further tickets to events once they are sold out. Our ticket capacity limits are based on ensuring all our ticket holders have the best possible experience during our events. Please feel free to add yourself to the event waitlist in case more tickets become available.
WHAT DOES +BF STAND FOR?
The phrase “+b.f” means “plus booking fee”. This fee is external and is passed onto our booking provider, Humanitix. Please note, this fee is non-refundable if you need to cancel or change your booking.
IS THERE AN AGE LIMIT FOR CLASSES?
We recommend that children only attend if they are 7 years and above, as we have found this age range is able to get the best experience and understanding from the class. Please be advised, all children below 18 years of age must be accompanied by their parent/guardian in order to attend a Public Class at our venues. You must be 18 years of age or older to consume alcohol.
WHY DO YOU TAKE PHOTOS DURING EVENTS?
We use photos from our events for advertising and marketing purposes. By clicking on the Submit Order button, you confirm that you 1) grant to Cabernet & Canvas, the right to take photographs of you in connection with Cabernet & Canvas events; 2) authorize Cabernet & Canvas, its assigns and transferees to copyright, use and publish the same in print and/or electronically; and 3) agree that Cabernet & Canvas may use such photographs of you with or without your name and for any lawful purpose, including for example such purposes as publicity, illustration, advertising, and Web content.
DO YOU SHARE MY CONTACT DETAILS WITH 3RD PARTIES?
No. If you have registered for our monthly eNewsletter, then we only use your email address to send you news from Cabernet & Canvas regarding new classes, special offers, and discounts.
IS THERE RESERVED SEATING?
Our seating is typically first in best dressed when you check in with our Manager on the day. However, we are happy to arrange a designated spot set up for you prior to your arrival if you contact us with at least 24 hours notice.
WHAT HAPPENS IF I CAN’T MAKE IT TO A PUBLIC CLASS?
Things happen. We get it. But we are also a business. When you purchase a ticket to a class, that secures your place in the class and prevents someone else from purchasing those tickets. We expect all our events to sell out and as such, have a strict cancellation policy. It is the same as purchasing tickets to a concert or the cinema, who will not refund you if you fall ill or are no longer able to attend.
CAN I BRING SOMEONE ALONG JUST TO WATCH?
Unfortunately, all attendees must have a valid ticket for entrance into the class. However, most of our classes are held in pubs across Perth, so your friends and family are welcome to come early to mingle and relax before your class commences. If you hold a Companion Card please get in touch as we are happy to pull up a seat for your support companion if there is enough space in the venue for everyone and yourself to feel comfortable and not squished.
You can read our full cancellation policy here.
Before class
WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING?
Just yourself. We provide the canvas, easel, brushes, paint, and an apron.
CAN I BRING MY OWN ALCOHOL?
The majority of our classes are run out of licensed pubs and bars, so you are not able to B.Y.O food or drink to those establishments. Your ticket price includes a $15 voucher to spend at the venue.
Our Studio is entirely B.Y.O, so please don't forget to bring a beverage and some nibbles to paint with. Please check the event listing for further details.
CAN I SAVE THE $15 VOUCHER FOR ANOTHER DAY?
Your $15 voucher must be redeemed on the day of the event on food or drinks from the venue, and cannot be saved for another date. Any unused vouchers or tokens expire at the end of your painting session and the venue has no obligation to honour these at a later date.
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?
We provide you with an apron but recommend wearing something you wouldn't mind getting paint on. Although acrylic paint is water-soluble, it is nearly impossible to remove once it dries completely.
WHAT TIME DO I NEED TO ARRIVE FOR CLASS?
Please arrive 30 minutes before your class to allow time to check-in with our staff, grab your $15 food and drinks vouchers and mingle before the painting starts. We recommend arriving at least 15 minutes early for classes at our Studio in Myaree.
I AM RUNNING LATE TO MY CLASS. CAN I STILL COME?
If you’re running late, don’t panic. You’re welcome to still attend, and our assistants will do their best to catch you up. However, please be advised that it is not feasible for our Artists to spend one-on-one time with you to cover what you missed.
ARE YOUR VENUES WHEELCHAIR ACCESSIBLE?
Yes, most of our venues do have disability access except for the Wembley Hotel, which is Heritage listed. Please check your event listing for information and fill the box labelled ‘Disability Requirements’ when purchasing your tickets so our staff know how to cater for you.
What to expect during the class
I’M NOT VERY CREATIVE, WILL I BE ABLE TO PAINT?
Yes! Our classes are designed for people who haven’t picked up a paintbrush since Primary School and have limited experience with painting. Our Artist will guide you through every step of the painting and ensure you’re on course to leave the class with a completed work of art.
CAN I ATTEND IF I HAVE PREVIOUS PAINTING EXPERIENCE?
Yes, of course! We welcome all skill levels in our classes. Some participants come to the class because it’s a fun painting environment and provides easy access to painting supplies. Advanced painters are encouraged to wander off the beaten path and let the Cabernet guide them to success.
CAN I TAKE MY PAINTING HOME AT THE END OF CLASS?
Yes, we have specifically designed the class so that your painting will be completed in the time allowed. Acrylic paint dries quickly, meaning you can pop it on your backseat with no worries about paint getting on the leather.
